External Couterpulsation Therapy

ECP is a non-invasive, circulatory assist therapy which provides increased circulation and is designed to improve chronic anginal symptoms. ECP sequentially compresses the legs from the calves, thighs and the buttocks, by inflating three sets of flexible fabric cuffs in sequence. This results in the movement of blood from the legs to the heart and entire upper body.

This technique lowers the pressure the heart must pump against; increases the rate of return of blood to the heart; and increases blood pressure while the heart is resting. These actions increase the amount of blood and oxygen going into the coronary arteries, as well as, decrease the work of the heart when it beats.
